Essentials for a cosy campfire date night
Essentials for a cosy campfire date night
Having a campfire date at home is such an amazing and fun option to enjoy the good summer night and cosy up together whilst the warm fire is cracking. It can be one of those perfect picturesque moments you will think back to when older. Being able to enjoy the small things together with your loved one is so prescious. If you haven’t yet organised your own cosy campfire date night, or you just want a list of stuff to remember for the next time - we got you! Our list of essentials for a cosy campfire night helps you organise your thoughts and your to-dos. Let’s get to it!
The campfire
You can’t have a campfire without fire. But how to actually do that?
Get the right firewood
Seems like an obvious thing to have for a campfire. But how much and what kind? You will need 3 types of wood to create your perfect campfire: wood shavings (you can also use dry leaves or dry bark), small twigs, and larger pieces of wood or big logs. If you are in a rental you might already have some wood available, otherwise you can buy a few logs.
Find the right space
Make sure to look up laws and regulations before making the fire. You might live in a regulated area or a fire-ban may be in place, especially for hot summer days. After you make sure setting up your campfire is legal, please remember to set it up in a place where there is a low risk that it will burn the surrounding space. Remember to keep flammable items (such as alcohol) away from the flames in a safe distance.
If you need some more info you can watch this short video on how to safely start a fire.
The mood
To set the mood for the perfect cosy campfire date night you will need some tools.
Prepare your space
Since you will be out for some hours you should bring a camping chair or a water resistant blanket to put on the ground with some pillows. Make sure you have something that will be comfortable and won’t increase your chances of a UTI. You can also bring a small picnic table to put your food, drinks and appliances on.
Get some music
Music can be the perfect accelerator to set the mood. So you have to find the right music that is perfect for your campfire night. The easiest way is to get a speaker running in the background. You can use your phone or have a bluetooth speaker help out. If you are a musician you can even play your own music. Who doesn’t like a bonfire with a guitar playing? The music choice is yours, you can go with guitar covers for a cosy setting or make it fun with an impromptu karaoke night.
Bring some blankets
During the night the temperature will likely fall, therefore it is always a good idea to get some blankets ready. In addition, you can also snuggle together under the blanket.
For those who like a little extra
If you want to go all out you can bring some fairy lights to the campfire date night. They will make the setting extra special. Another option is to get some candles - you can even get the ones that are against mosquitos, making it a sensible and cute option.
Making an at-home movie theatre is also an option. Just get some sheets up and your projector ready and you got yourself an at-home “sit-in” cinema. So romantic!
The food
You can get creative with food as you have an open fire where you can prepare so many things. To limit the list for the essentials we got you some simple and easy-to-prepare food ideas.
Smores - the ultimate campfire food
Campfires and smores go hand in hand - that is the way it is. Get some marshmallow skewers which can help you cook those bad boys. You will also need some crackers, chocolate and marshmallows and build the perfect smore.
Cook some hot-dogs
One of the simplest and most delicious foods you can make on an open fire are hot dogs. You will need some skewers, cut in the sausages and cook them on the fire until done. You can also heat up the buns easily with the same method. Such a simple and tasty treat! Make sure that the food isn’t on the ground - you don’t want to invite ants to the party.
Prepare some snacks beforehand
Snacks for your campfire party don't necessarily have to be cooked on the fire. They can be something premade that you can just easily bring out. Chips, carrots with dips, pretzels, … whatever you want!
The drinks
Prepare them beforehand and store them in a thermos so they are ready for when you are feeling a little chilly.
Hot-chocolate
Get your hot chocolate on and create an extra special sugary treat for you and your partner. Get the recipe here. Make the serving extra cute with small marshmallows, grated chocolate or whipped cream.
Tea
Prepare some tasty mint or green tea for the occasion. It will be such a heartwarming feeling to sip a little tea whilst the weather gets chilly and you are under the blankets.
Party drinks
For the party people out there - get some soda and cocktails and make your night fun! Be aware to keep the distance between the alcoholic drinks and the fire!
The other boring but important things
Keep out the bugs
Since you will be spending some time out together it makes sense to buy some bug spray to keep out the insects - so you can enjoy a bug-free night.
Stop the fire safely
It is very important that you make sure that the fire is put out completely before you leave the site.
